About this trip

Eight days through Al-Andalus — the Mezquita of Córdoba, the Alhambra of Granada, Seville's Real Alcázar and the world's largest Gothic cathedral, linked by Spain's AVE high-speed trains with a Madrid start.

For eight centuries southern Spain was Al-Andalus, and its architecture is the finest surviving Islamic heritage in Western Europe. This tour is built around that story: the great mosque of Córdoba with its 856 columns, the Nasrid Palaces of the Alhambra, the mudéjar courtyards of Seville's Alcázar, and the whitewashed hill towns in between. It is a favourite with British Muslim families and with anyone drawn to history, but it is equally a food and flamenco tour — tapas crawls in Seville, an Albaicín flamenco cave in Granada, and long Andalusian lunches. Alhambra tickets are the hardest in Spain to get; ours are reserved from the day you book.

Visas and practical information

Visa requirements

Spain is in the Schengen Area. British passport holders need ETIAS from 2026. Non-EU passport holders resident in the UK need a Spanish Schengen visa; as a Spain-registered agency our Madrid office handles these applications directly and our approval rate is above 98%.

Allow around 15 days for processing — book with that in mind.

What to pack

  • Sunhat and SPF — Seville and Córdoba are the hottest cities in Europe
  • Shoes with grip for the Albaicín's polished cobbles
  • Modest cover for the Mezquita and cathedral visits
  • A light shawl for evenings — Granada cools sharply after dark
  • A refillable bottle: Granada's mountain tap water is excellent

Frequently asked questions

Are Alhambra tickets really guaranteed?

Yes. Nasrid Palace entry is capped at 300 people per half hour and sells out months ahead. We hold allocation as a Spain-registered agency and reserve your slot the day you confirm the booking.

Can we pray at the Mezquita?

The Mezquita is a functioning Catholic cathedral and prayer by non-Christians is not permitted inside. Córdoba, Seville and Granada all have working mosques nearby — your guide will show you the closest and prayer times are built into the schedule.

Is this tour good for children?

Yes. The Alcázar gardens, the Giralda ramps and the flamenco show all work well for children aged 7 and up. Under-12s pay 75% of the adult fare.

How hot does it get in summer?

Seville and Córdoba regularly exceed 40°C in July and August, which is why we do not run this tour in those months. April, May, October and November are ideal.

Do we need to change hotels often?

No — only three hotels in eight days, with three nights in Seville and two each in Madrid and Granada.
